Range Rover passes on EV version of Evoque for now

10/05/2019

Luxury SUV maker Range Rover informs customers that an EV version for the Range Rover Evoque is still pretty much fantasy... for now. However HEV and HPEV start shipping soon.

Jaguar Land Rover has made it known to its customers that there will not be an electric Range Rover Evoque before 2025. This information was revealed by the Jaguar Land Rover UK boss, Rawdon Glover where he specified that there will be a market for a small to medium-sized electric SUV of their product but  it will not arrive before the next generation of its entry-level Range Rover. This decision was taken as the company has decided to focus its labors on hybrid technology in the mid-term. the decision is a bold one in the light of fierce competion from rivals in the SUV market.

The recent Range Rover Evoque is in its second generation after its first introduction in 2011 as a subcompact luxury crossover SUV. Since then sales have escalated from 22,710 to 602,044. The new design debuted last November on the new Premium Transverse Architecture. The new platform now lodges mild hybrids as well as a plug-in hybrid.

The Range Rover Evoque was once voted "the most beautiful car on Earth"

Describing the Evoque PHEV when it does arrive, Glover explained that upon arrival the Evoque PHEV will be a ‘fleet game changer’ as it has held many enthusiasts in anticipation.  He went further and predicted that it would take up more than a third of the UK Evoque sales when its production finally takes place and reaches customers early next year.

According to Land Rover, they have faith that the plug-in hybrid technology will be a practical step for   the incoming Evoque towards becoming  a fully electric variant. This opinion is a result of the success the company has with the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport plug-in hybrids that made their appearance two years ago.

Although there is no EV for Evoque in the nearest future, fans can look forward to Hybrids soon

Though there is no confirmation of broader electric plans for Land Rover, we do know that an electric version of the Range Rover might be happening in 2025.

So you should know the 2019 Range Rover PHEV will be available in the next 12 months. It will be powered by a 1.5 liter petrol engine that complements an electric motor which reportedly gives out 108 horsepower.
